Mentor Text - Reading:  Click HERE to read the following narrative, from .  Answer the questions. How does an author’s use of sensory details and other descriptive language convey elements and reflections of the author’s culture?  How can you improve your own narrative by using these?



Narrative Writing (UC Prompts - provided to students)


Steps


1.  Students complete bubble map graphic organizer (prompt in center, ideas for stories in outside bubbles) Completed Week 1


2.  Students write 4-6 paragraphs (MUST be between 340-350 words) FIRST DRAFT IS BY HAND - 1st person, include dialogue - Completed Week 3


3.  STUDENT COMPLETE A TIMELINE- click here for graphic organizer. COMPLETED WEEK 3.


4. Students Type DRAFT 2 in Google Docs - always revising and editing to improve. - COMPLETED LAST WEEK


5.  Students copy / paste or type DRAFT 3 into grammarly.com (create a free account if they don't have one already) and correct grammar errors.



6.  Students will then create a comic strip telling their story - include thought bubbles, dialogue, captions - stick figures are okay, black and white is okay, online graphic organizers are okay, free online comic stip makers are okay.  They may use a blank sheet of paper or a free online tool (click here).


7.  Students will share their their narrative with another student in Google Docs using email share button.  (Peer Review forms will be made available by clicking here).COMPLETE THIS WEEK


***NOTE: Students will be starting a 2nd Essay using their UC prompts, so, once they have completed and printed their FINAL  DRAFT, they will choose a 2nd prompt from their list to answer.  They should begin planning for that by completiing a 2nd bubble map with their prompt in the center bubble and story ideas in the surrounding bubbles.
